Who we are
ENERGIA-Africa is the regional chapter of ENERGIA -the International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy- in Africa. The ENERGIA-Africa network was formed in 2000 through a consultative process. It is a network of men and women whose common goal is to create equality of opportunity and access to relevant energy resources for the poor.
ENERGIA-Africa is active in 13 countries in the region: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In these countries national gender and energy networks have been established. National Focal Points (NFPs) coordinate activities at national level and are hosted by renowned organisations working on energy and sustainable development issues.
Regional activities are coordinated by Ms Nozipho Wright, the Regional Network Coordinator (RNC). The RNC also engages with the NFPs and with network members at the regional level. The Regional Secretariat, hosted by the Botswana Technology Centre (BOTEC) since May 2008, has a supportive role to the regional network's activities.
