Zimbabwe capacity Building Workshop Report: Mainstreaming Gender in Energy Projects. 2009.

The national capacity building workshop for gender mainstreaming in energy projects in Zimbabwe was held over a five day in July 2010. The workshop was part of the ENERGIA Phase IV activities meant to build national capacity and practical experience. The workshop aimed to provide practitioners with skills and tools to mainstream gender into the various energy projects they are working on, following the realization that most practitioners lack appropriate skills and tools for gender mainstreaming in projects.

The Workshop was attended by 20 participants, 7 females and 13 males. These participants represented government, NGOs, community based organizations, and academic institutions. The participants were as they are currently working on energy projects with the goal of providing them with skills that would help them mainstream gender into the projects. The training package was based primarily on the ENERGIA training Module Two “Gender Tools for Energy Projects” and its training guide. The workshop programme consisted of lectures, field visits, group work and discussions.

By the end of the workshop a total of 13 action plans were produced. A follow up workshop aimed at evaluation of the action plans and allow sharing of experiences took place in January 2010. According to the assessment of the workshop all the participants have grasped the gender and energy mainstreaming concept. This was determined through asking them to go through their needs assessment form which was used to select participants for the first workshop.
