Network Goals

  • To encourage partnerships as well as information sharing on gender and energy within Swaziland.
  • To help mainstream gender into energy in Swaziland.
  • Capacity building within stakeholders.
  • Network strengthening.

Activities

  • Network strengthening in Swaziland focused on increasing the membership base of the network in order to have a stronger impact in the area of focus. In addition, the national network was looking for increased involvement of the network members.
  • The network raised awareness at national level on gender and energy issues. This was done through the publication of nine articles in the local newspaper the Swazi Observer and broadcasting in three radio programs in the local language. At the same time the contact between the network and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has been intensified.
  • A short survey was carried out to establish the current level of understanding of gender and energy issues in the country among the different stakeholders, especially in rural areas. The information was used to identify the information needs gaps and the results of this survey have been documented in a report and brochure and disseminated to the relevant stakeholders and other users.
