Kenya Gender and Energy Network National Workshop
The three-day National Training Workshop on Concepts in Gender and Energy Planning was organized by the Kenya Gender and Energy Network (KGEN) in November 2010. KGEN is a member of ENERGIA (International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy), which links individuals and groups concerned with gender. The workshop brought together a total of 31 participants including 20 women and 11 men.
In terms of objectives and content, the workshop provided participants with an opportunity to:
- Share experiences of working on gender and energy.
- Learn about concepts for mainstreaming gender in energy project planning.
- Learn about gender planning tools for planning participants’ own projects.
- Discuss action planning guidelines, draft and finalize own individual action plans.
The training methodology included experience sharing, group work and feedback in plenary; storytelling, case studies and summary of emerging issues by trainers. The training was held at Sports View Hotel, Kasarani in Nairobi, from November 22- 24, 2010.
Outputs:
- A cadre of 31 KGEN members and associates trained on concepts in gender and energy planning tools.
- A workshop report detailing the comprehensive training on concepts in gender and energy planning.
- A set of individual draft action plans that KGEN members will use for implementation, monitoring and evaluation gender mainstreaming in energy/other projects within their respective organizations.
- A list of participants and contact details that will facilitate further networking and collaboration among KGEN members and associates.
- Dissemination of resource materials including a) Module 1: Concepts in and Energy (Adapted from Kenya); b) Module 2: Gender Tools for Energy Projects; and c) Case studies on experiences in gender mainstreaming in energy project planning and implementation.
