Gender Audit of the Ministry of Energy, Ghana

In 2009, the Ghana Network conducted a gender audit of the Ghana Energy Ministry with financial support from ENERGIA. The gender audit exercise aimed at identifying gender gaps in energy and poverty policies and organisational culture. The general purpose of the audit was to strengthen the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to gender equality goals and processes. Indicators for such an outcome would be traced through changes in organizational culture, rules and behaviour; increase in planning and implementing gender related activities; gender budgets; increased participation of women in the decision making process and other aspects of the energy sector, etc. Taking a gender perspective will contribute to understanding how services provided by Ministry of Energy (MoEN) can be more efficient and effective. A draft report of the gender audit is available.
